Uzbekistan has set goals to accelerate large chemical projects

On March 11, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the progress of major investment projects in the chemical industry and the launch of new production facilities.

Head of Stateemphasizedthe need to accelerate the construction and modernization of enterprises, as well as the introduction of a new strategic planning system based on the “goal – action – result” principle.

This year it is planned:

  • increase exports of chemical products to $720 million;
  • increase the production of nitrogen fertilizers to 1.12 million tons, phosphorus - 135 thousand tons, potash - 222 thousand tons;
  • attract $2.5 billion in investment across 133 projects totaling $9.5 billion;
  • disburse $1.3 billion and launch 7 new facilities within 24 strategic projects.

The progress of work at the Kungrad soda plant, Samarkandkimyo and the Dekhkanabad potash plant was critically examined. Those in charge have been instructed, together with investors, to speed up the completion of projects.

The issues of processing phosphorus gypsum waste from the Ammophos-Maxam enterprise and the creation of additional products, including sulfuric acid, were also discussed.

Special attention is paid to the development of scientific infrastructure. It is planned to open a chemical-technological innovation center with the participation of South Korean companies for research in the field of gas and coal chemistry, sorbents, catalysts, nanomaterials and composites. It will become the first research institute of this profile in Central Asia.

In addition, the presentation presented projects: production of solvents, dry cyanides, caustic soda, silicone and mineral fertilizers; modernization of the facilities of Ferganaazot and Navoiyazot; production of household chemicals in the Tashkent region; production of a new type of tire at the First Rubber Plant.

Uzkimyosanoat has implemented an ERP system that unites 16 information platforms integrated with 21 ministries and departments. It is planned to use artificial intelligence to predict the need for fertilizers and control the movement of products to farmers.

The President also instructed to reduce the cost of production by 10–15% by reducing energy costs, optimizing raw materials and digitalization, and instructed all those responsible to ensure the commissioning of new capacities on time.
